The Jewish Federation of Broward County’s Support for Holocaust Survivors program provides desperately needed assistance to the most vulnerable and needy Survivors. Currently, there are approximately 1,500 Holocaust Survivors in Broward County, with 700 in desperate need.

As we approach International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we do more than remember; we act. We honor the six million lives lost and the Survivors who carry the weight of history with resilience and strength.

On January 27, 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau – the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp – was liberated. That day became a symbol of hope after unimaginable horror. Today, January 27 stands as a Global Day of Remembrance, a solemn call to ensure that those who endured the Holocaust never face hardship alone.

Through the annual campaign in support of Kavod SHEF (Survivors of the Holocaust Emergency Fund), your gift becomes a lifeline. Every dollar is matched 1:1, doubling its impact to provide essentials such as food, rent, medical care, hearing aids, home health assistance, and more. This is not charity; it is dignity, justice, and compassion in action.

Recent studies indicate that 38,000 Holocaust Survivors are living in the United States today – and Broward County is home to the second-largest community of Holocaust Survivors in South Florida. As a result, Kavod SHEF was established to help meet this critical need. Kavod SHEF is a partnership between Seed the Dream Foundation and Kavod SHEF that works with 34 communities across the United States, including Broward County. Leveraging funds raised through a special national philanthropic matching initiative, Kavod SHEF works with the Jewish Federation of Broward County to bring additional dollars to the Survivor community. All donations are matched dollar for dollar.

With your help, the Jewish Federation of Broward County ensures that Holocaust Survivors have what they need – whether it’s a new roof over their heads or a complete and healthy meal.

Partnering with Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County, we ensure that your generosity reaches those who need it most. Together, we can transform remembrance into hope.
