The Power of Leaning In: From Ferguson to Israel
Event Date and Time:
August 6, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
After Michael Brown was fatally shot by a white police officer in Ferguson, MO, in August 2014, protestors took to the street. Jewish leaders in St. Louis, concerned about their Black neighbors, peacefully marched together for months. These events happened while Israel was in the midst of Operation Protective Edge, and pro-Palestinian activists started tweeting at Ferguson protestors creating the hashtag #FromFergusontoPalestine. Yet the community would not be divided and the bonds created have continued. In fact, women clergy members in Ferguson went to Israel and Palestinian territories to continue their journey — this time on the streets of Israel. Hear their story. Featuring Rabbi Andrea Goldstein of Congregation Shaare Emeth and Rev. Dr. Karen Anderson of Ward Chapel AME Church, and moderated by Maharat Rori Picker Neiss, Executive Director, JCRC of St. Louis.
This event is hosted by JFNA, The Jewish Council for Public Affairs, and the JCRC of St. Louis.
