Join IJKL for an Interview with Tzedakah Educator and Advocate Danny Siegel

Dr. Sandra Lilienthal kicks off the Dr. Abraham Gittelson Scholar Lecture Series when she is joined by renowned tzedakah educator and activist Danny Siegel who will discuss his new book Radiance: Creative Mitzvah Living.

The program is free to attend and will be broadcast via Zoom on Sunday, January 17 at 11:00 AM on the www.IJKL.org website and is a joint presentation of the Jewish Federation of Broward County Orloff Department of Jewish Education and Engagement, the David Posnack Jewish Community Center and IJKL, The Institute for Jewish Knowledge and Learning. The public is required to pre-register to receive login passwords in advance of the event.

Radiance: Creative Mitzvah Living is an anthology of selected prose and poetry written by tzedakah educator and advocate Danny Siegel over of the course of his long career. The word radiance is a translation of the Hebrew word ziv which references the Ziv Tzedakah Fund that Siegel founded in 1981 and operated until 2008. The organization raised and distributed more than thirteen and a half million dollars. Part I of Radiance is a collection of prose writing that focuses on tzedakah, interpretation of Torah texts about tikkun olam (repairing the world) and includes portraits of Mitzvah Heroes as well as guidance on how to be a mensch and how to give your money away. Radiance Part II collects the many poems written by Siegel covering the years 1969 through 2012.

About the Author
Danny Siegel is a well-known author, lecturer, and poet and has served as the Tzedakah resource person on the United Synagogue Youth Israel Pilgrimage for more than four decades. He is the author of nearly thirty books, including Where Heaven and Earth Touch: An Anthology of Midrash and Halachah.

Following the interview, Dr. Sandra Lilienthal will open the New Year thoughtfully and continue the tradition of tzedakah inspired teachings of Danny Siegel with a three-part weekly series called Teachings: “Exploring Pirke Avot – The World Stands Upon 3 Things.” The three weekly sessions begin Thursday, January 21, 2021.
