Food For Thought: Rum Cake’s Jewish Roots

March 20, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Come bake a Rum Cake with YLD!
Join us for a hands-on baking class during in which participants will learn about the vital role Caribbean Jews played in the transport and trade of the ingredients which are essential to this delicious dessert.

Hosted by Young Israel of Century Village, the class will be an amazing opportunity to engage with the community's most senior Jewish residents in a fun, socially distanced environment.

Speaker: Dana Cohen Sprott
Dana has a B.S. in Economics from Russell Sage College and a Master’s in Business Administration from George Washington University. Sprott has lived and worked in the Caribbean for three decades and found Jewish communities that were older than Manhattan and unlikely places of refuge during World War II. She is a published writer, author, lecturer and researcher and led the international team that pinpointed the located of the lost synagogue and Jewish burial ground on the Dutch island of St. Maarten.

The Sunshine Circle is eager to welcome our YLD to participate in this fun event.
